Petunia is the garter snake that moved into our vegetable garden in its early days. This space shares the ever-evolving garden along with some excursions beyond the fence.
To be a contented gardener in the Pacific Northwest, it helps if one has a certain fascination with stuff that can even grow on rocks. This rock sits in my garden and I just noticed the healthy garden growing on it.
I love to observe lichens and mosses, you must have clean air over there! I took advantage of a damp shady corner in my patch to start a woodpile. Just for the beneficial critters that love to live there!
Ah yes, apparently January is prime lichen and moss season. Lots of soaked in moisture and a little more light each day.
Matron, do you have any friendly snakes that will move into the woodpile? Petunia the snake liked the boards we had laying in the garden. I'll bet a frog will take up residence too (but maybe not if the snake gets there first).

That is a garden in itself ... it looks vibrant and healthy. I'd like to have a rock like that in my garden.
